Don't Let Your Email Address Be the Reason You Miss a Job Opportunity

The first part that a hiring manager would see on your resume is your contact information that includes your complete name, physical address, telephone number, and email address. Aside from your telephone number, the email address is the easiest way to get in touch with you in case an employer would like to ask you for an interview.
To secure an interview, you need to make sure that you leave a good impression through your email address. You need to have a professional and easy to remember email address that would help in leading you to a successful job application.

How to Create A Good Impression Using your Email Address?

The way to secure a potential interview is by leaving a readable and professional email address. But how are you going to do that?

Create an email address that is easier to remember.  Various studies shows that having a professional email address improves applicants’ chances of landing interviews. When the recruiters needs to contact you as they recognize your qualifications, they will call you or send you an email immediately. However, a mind bending or unprofessional email address might cost you an interview call.

Use your name and initials for your email address. Your email address with your name and initials looks more professional. Always remember that you would not wish to compromise your chance upon job application just because you have an email address that creates no interest to the hiring manager. Consider creating an email with your name and initials to guarantee a good impression. t. An example of this is Jane L. Doe, which you can create as [email protected].

No cute email addresses. Forbid yourself in using email addresses with cute names because this is not useful for your job application. Prevent the use of emails such as [email protected] or [email protected]; they would not leave a good impression and would only get your resume  placed into the trash.

Use an up-to-date email provider. It feels nostalgic when you still see email addresses with AOL, Lycos, Yahoo, Ymail, and others as webmail providers. They are free and still being used. However, when hiring managers would see this, they probably would leave the impression that you are no longer up-to-date with the latest technology. So, better think about creating another one with Gmail or Outlook, One of the best email services providers nowadays.

Why not use a work email address when sending job applications?

First of all, companies have restrictions when it comes to using work email addresses. Most companies have policies that include the prohibition of using work email for non-work-related purposes. Therefore, create a personal or professional email address to send job applications instead of using your work email address.

By not using a professional email address, you are missing a job opportunity. Prepare yourself enough with an email address aside from the other significant details you will need on your resume.

Keep in mind that the primary part that a hiring manager would look at is the header where you have your contact information, which includes your email address. Your email address should allow you to grab a job opportunity since this is one of the ways how an employer will contact you for an interview.
