How to Make A Career Change When You Don't Know Where to Start?

Due to the global pandemic, many of us have no choice but to grab available job opportunities out there.

Yeah!  Because of utility bills and other expenses.
Some are lucky to have a greater career shift toward reaching overall growth. This life-changing move is a big decision to make. Why? Because you have to complement your current skills into a whole new set of requirements in a different work setting.

From preparing your career tools and sending job applications to adjusting to a new work environment, career change is very challenging. However, we compile the top three tips to help you on how to start; let’s begin:

Explore the opportunities

What is trending? What are industry needs? These are the questions that you have to ask first before clicking on the search button in Google.

Determine an emerging industry, which was aligned to your current experience, in this way, career change is more manageable, you may be changing positions, but you already know your target job.  If you are still unsure how to do it, ask former colleagues who held a similar role to you and have moved to another career.

Ask relevant questions, like what are their niche? What companies have accepted their previous experience? Once you’ve known what you want, study their way of communication and join professional groups online, like LinkedIn and Facebook, search blogs, and participate in job events.

Pursue your passion

Still don’t know what you want? Try to list the things that spark your interests, remember your hobby, and re-visit your social media platforms; algorithms know what are the things you’ve been searching for in the past.

Making a career change requires passion and patience. Why do you like this industry? Why is this niche appealing to you? How does it align with your previous work?

Always remember that this is what sets you apart from others, you must carefully assess yourself on what attracts you in this kind of industry. Once you decide, equip yourself with additional knowledge and skills by enrolling in online courses or watching YouTube videos.

Remember: Passion is the fuel that inspires and drives people toward specific goals, no matter how unlikely or difficult they might be.

Ask a career coach

Two heads are better than one, instead of thinking alone about what type of career you want to pursue next, ask a professional instead.

These experts are skilled at identifying the appropriate role for you and then helping you make the smooth transition into your new career. They will enable you to perceive what job you are for, depending on your knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Utilizing their long periods of industry experience, backed by career research and complex psychological theory, along with in-depth knowledge of the current job market and organizational processes, they can expedite your job search by making you understand the corporate world and your personal development.

Career change or transitioning to a new role is challenging, especially in this stiff job market. If you plan to have a career shift this year and are clueless about what to do next, talk to us! We’d love to hear from you.
