Staying in a company for 5 to 10 years is a significant accomplishment, especially for millennials. Well, it's pretty normal to get bored especially if you are doing the same thing every day.

According to a recent Gallup.com poll, 60% of millennials would contemplate leaving their jobs if they feel that they are not involved at work— furthermore, just half intend to be with a similar organization in 12 months.

The study also shows that most of them start to look for another job before being with a company for three years so that an average millennial would have three jobs in her lifetime.
If you are one of them, we understand.

You may be asking yourself, “I feel stuck. What should I do?”

It’s not unusual to feel like this, it’s hard work to direct yourself, especially when you’re taking the unknown path.

So, what do you do when you feel stuck on a career path? Do you take a career shift? Ask for a promotion? Apply internally? Or stick it out? Well, any one of these is fine.

However, how do you know which direction is right for you? We compiled the first three steps to take to shift into a new career.

Let’s begin.

Take a Skills Inventory

As simply as listing one’s abilities, education, and even experiences to identify your strengths, This is a popular method that employers employ as part of the recruitment process to check and closely monitor the skills of job applicants to ensure their alignment with their goals and future needs.

So, the first thing that you should do is  get a piece of paper, list everything you have, and check the emerging industry in your local area and job posts, relevant to your skills, knowledge, and abilities.

There are also online tests that offer this kind of evaluation; other skills inventory surveys will provide you with an in-depth report on what jobs match with the skills you have recognized as most important to you. Through this, you can be guided to what career path to take next.

Create an action plan

If you have decided to make a career change, then don’t falter to do it. Start planning and determining all your goals and conceptualizing possible alternatives if your initial plans don’t work.

List your target companies, before you start sending your application, along with your resume or CV, to random companies, find the best that genuinely interests you. Also, consider your passion or things that spark your interests, by doing this will help you become successful and content in your next career path.

Be confident and do your best to make them happen.

Upgrade your career tools

You cannot enter the unknown battlefield if you don’t have the right gear, so if you are planning to pivot into a new career path. Prepare the necessary tools to equip you with your new job search journey.

Start with your resume, which is your ticket to a career. The way you present yourself in your resume makes a first impression which will pave the way for your job application process.

Equip your application with a powerful cover letter and attractive LinkedIn Profile to impress the hiring managers; these professional documents will serve as your marketing tool.

So, you must customize your general resume to your target position job before sending it to your target company.

This way, you’ll increase your chances of landing an interview and getting hired.
