Do you leave your work each day feeling completely exhausted? Do you wake up fearing the day? Are you always excited about the weekends? If all of your answers are “yes” then you are now dealing with job stress.

Job stress results from working in toxic workplaces, which is very normal and happens to almost everyone. However, those who can’t deal with a toxic workplace can’t also handle job stress and may suffer more serious problems in the long run. As a professional, constantly evaluate and manage your physical, mental, and emotional state. Hence, if you’re suffering from job stress, recover your sanity and win back your life as you read this. Toxic workplaces are pervasive, but how exactly can we identify that our workplaces are toxic? Let’s find out.

6 Signs of a Toxic Workplace

1.Negative Ambiance

Negativity is frequently the aftereffect of lost confidence, control, or network. Nothing influences employee morale more treacherously than steady workplace negativity. It saps the vitality of your organization and redirects basic considerations from work and performance.

2.Miscommunication

Instead of asking questions, assuming things is the cause of miscommunication most of the time. It arises in any workplace and may be formed by the unique aspects of the environment, including long hours of work, hierarchical organizational structure, and view-oriented disagreement with others.  It always harms the company, indicating incomplete tasks, low productivity, poor performances, and downfall of its reputation in the eyes of the employees and the public.

3.High Staff Turnover

When the number or percentage of employees who leave the company voluntarily becomes higher, then there is a profound organizational problem that needs to be identified and resolved. So, why are there people absconding from the company? More often than not it’s poor employee experience that’s driving them away. It is the toxic culture that doesn’t suit its people, wherein the type of corporate culture sabotages morale, scares away new talent, and actively drives away its best employee.

4.No Opportunities to Grow

Do you ever feel that you are stagnant in your career?  Is there no progression in your position even if you are working for a long time? In a toxic workplace environment, there are no opportunities to advance and grow. Moreover, employers don’t support and push their workers toward creative capacity, and managers in such firms don’t instill leadership skills in their staff, delegate vital tasks, leverage their talents, or seek input.

5.Unsupportive Colleagues

Encouragement can be very inspirational in showing a person the opportunities that they may not be able to see by themselves, however, in a toxic environment, it is the opposite. In a stressful workplace, people are not happy when new employees join their teams. When somebody applies for promotion, both the team leaders and the group are not supportive of their decision. They will keep letting you down, so if these kinds of people are encircling you, you will have to think of how to respond appropriately.

6.Gossip Everywhere

During idle hours or breaks through casual chat around the pantry, office gossip can start to rear its ugly head. Gossip at work can decline productivity, spread paranoia, and hinder your ongoing success. Employers and employees will not work together, thus creating a toxic environment. This is because they prefer not to discuss their views with their peers and talk behind colleagues’ backs.

How to take care of your mental health

Now that you know the signs of a toxic workplace environment that will eventually affect your mental health. Let’s discuss different ways to deal with it and achieve a stress-free life by properly managing your time toward a work-life balance.

1. Know your priorities and create your boundaries: Establish your goals and identify different ways to attain them by managing your schedule, avoiding multitasking, eliminating distractions, and setting realistic limits for both your work and home.

2. Communicate your needs to your boss and work smarter, not harder: Communicate with your superiors openly, let them know that you have to attend your kid’s school events, and celebrate important holidays with your family because a good boss will always understand. If you are having difficulty with your work, research ways to streamline it, do not overwork.

3. Take care of yourself and learn how to say no: Manage your time properly to have enough to prepare healthy meals and exercise at least three times a week to make you more productive and efficient at work. It’s okay to drink with friends occasionally but learn to say no to every invitation that doesn’t align with your schedule.

Never let yourself be in a situation where you can’t escape a toxic workplace environment that will eventually affect your mental health. Similarly, take note of these signs and tips to deal with stress levels to a minimum effectively.

Do these work-life balance tips for employees neglect to take care of their issues in the workplace? You may need to secure another position.
